Hannes Zwarts Optometrists was founded in 2004 by Optometrist Hannes Zwarts with part-time office hours in Kerk Street Ermelo. During the next year the office was expanded and relocated to the Game Centre. In this location, it became a full-time practice and eyeglass service was added, including one-hour service on limited prescriptions. Any other complex prescriptions could be dispensed within 24 hours. This began the concept of "one-stop for professional vision care." Business boomed with this new location and the practice expanded more than doubling in size. 
Two other big changes occurred along with the size increase. We added digital photography and computerized refraction equipment.
Hannes Zwarts Optometrists continues to lead the way in Ermelo for complete optometric services, always striving to provide the ultimate in patient satisfaction.

In 2011 Hannes Zwarts opened a branch in the neighbouring town of Bethal where he personally also consult.

The founder of Hannes  Zwarts Optometrists,  Hannes Zwarts, was born and raised in Standerton. He graduated in 2001 from Rand Afrikaans University. The award for the best clinical Optometry student in his class was awarded to him in his final year of study. After his training he began to practice in Standerton with Mark Lawrence. They entered into partnership in Ermelo in 2004. In 2006 Hannes decided to buy Mark’s share out and he is now the sole proprietor of Hannes Zwarts Optometrists. He has completed various courses, even an Iridology diploma, and believes in the practice of broad spectrum Optometry. Hannes is constantly expanding his scope of practice and has explored the fields of Orthokeratology, Iridology, Hipnosis and Bates methods.  He also completed is post graduate studies in advanced diagnostic skills through the University of Kwazulu Natal recently, developed numerous Optometric software applications for eye therapy as well as dispensing and diagnostic procedures. Hannes takes pride in his ever increasing patient base, with patients from as far as Mbabane (Swaziland) and Newcastle (Natal)
